FAQ

How do we count words when translating subtitles?

When translating subtitles, we use the following simplified rules to count words:

Preprocessing:

  • Remove timestamps and sequence numbers from SRT subtitle files
  • Only count the actual subtitle content

Basic Counting Rules:

  • Chinese: Each character counts as 1 word
  • English: Each word counts as 1 word
  • Spaces and punctuation marks: Each counts as 1 word

Examples:

  • Chinese: "你好" counts as 2 words
  • English: "Hello world" counts as 3 words (2 words + 1 space)
  • Mixed: "你好 world!" counts as 5 words (2 Chinese characters + 1 space + 1 English word + 1 punctuation mark)

Other Languages: Similar counting rules apply, specific details are subject to actual requirements

Why does the subtitle extraction feature sometimes return empty subtitles?

Check if you are using the automatic subtitle region detection feature. The automatic detection targets conventional subtitle positions, which are typically in the lower area of the video. If the subtitles you need to extract are not located in this area, they may not be extracted. You can manually select the region where the subtitles are located.

Why does my task show an error status?

Occasionally, tasks may show an error status, which is normal. Possible reasons for errors include:

  • Network issues
  • AI service temporarily unavailable
  • Your task contains sensitive content

For recoverable exceptions, our system will automatically retry your task. After 3 retry attempts, if the task still cannot succeed, it will be marked as FAIL. In this case, your credits will be refunded, so there's no need to worry.

Should I use Subtitle Extractor or Speech Recognition?

If you need to get subtitles from a video, and your video already has original subtitles, we recommend using the Subtitle Extractor feature. It can help you extract existing subtitles, which are generally verified content and can be used directly.

In other cases, use Speech Recognition.

Can Subtitle Extractor extract subtitles from game recordings?

Absolutely! In most cases, subtitles in games are similar to video subtitles and can be extracted by our tool. The difference may be that you need to manually select the subtitle area, as game subtitle positions may differ from movie subtitles.
